Howzit and welcome. This site is designed, coded and updated by me, Rob Schmitt. I live with my wife Mandy in Edinburgh, UK, though I originally hail from South Africa. I've worked in web development for about 12 years and currently work for Blonde as Senior Developer. I'm also a Zend Certified Engineer.
This blog has two goals, as I see it:
- To organise my thoughts, notes, links, etc. Basically all those things that make me a productive web developer.
- To share and hopefully help someone like you with a useful bit of information. I searched for most of the things collected here; why shouldn't you be searching for the same stuff?
I discuss things that interest me, so right now that's likely to cover topics such as PHP, Drupal, CSS, XHTML, databases (MySQL and PostgreSQL), JavaScript and jQuery, and the odd server configuration issue. I'm a geek, what can I say? I love beautiful, clean code. I'm all for web standards. I favour an approach that gets the job done, over one that that's technically impressive or complex just for the sake of being so -- you know who you are.
